On 26th October this year, National Biotechnology Research Park (NBRP) would hold the 2019 NBRP Biomed startup challenge in collaboration with AstraZeneca, Taipei Medical University (TMU) Biomed Accelerator, TMU GLORIA and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) GLORIA. The program would promote the acceleration of the biomedical industry, and innovation in medical technology and services. TMU would hold a clinical strategy workshop and provide clinical resources; NCKU, National Taiwan University (NTU), Academia Sinica, and National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) would provide support in team recruitment and mentoring.

Startup teams participating in the program would have the privilege to receive mentoring and support from internationally renowned institutions in the biomedical industry. Winner teams would be eligible for three months (November 2019 – January 2020) of intensive acceleration program, one-on-one academic and commercial mentoring. Through the program, the teams would be able to connect with prominent scientists and entrepreneurs and would become part of global network. We would invite all teams in the following four fields to apply: Oncology, Cardiovascular, nephrology, metabolic diseases, Respiratory diseases, Digital health.

Team eligibility:
  1. The application is open to all companies and teams, in any nationalities or ages
  2. The team must be able to attend mentoring training and other courses in English

 Team judging criteria (from 1 [lowest score] to 10 [highest score])
  1. Overall planning: novelty, awareness of the problem, and feasibility of the solution. The score would include current validation (operational) results, market development plan, product development plan, and fundraising plan.
  2. Market potential: understanding of the market growth, competitor analysis, and the team’s competitive edge
  3. Execution: the team’s background, past achievements and results, teamwork and ability to carry out its plans
  4. Collaboration potential: team’s potential in collaborating with the accelerators’ enterprise partner(s) from technology, service, or market aspects. Preferences would be given to teams having sufficient condition to collaborate with the enterprise partners.
