Three-day expo attracts domestic and international attention, produces 4,000 business matchmaking discussions
This year’s Future Tech Expo was very successful. Its exhibitions received visits from all types of industries, and many countries sent personnel from their Taiwan representative offices to attend (examples include the representative offices of Austria, Moscow, India, and Vietnam). Numerous foreign visitors from countries and regions including the Czech Republic, United States, Middle East, Finland, and Switzerland also toured the exhibitions, and were amazed by and impressed with the technologies developed by Taiwan’s academia. The technologies that made the deepest impression were eye drops that treat myopia and a leg-wheel transformable mobile platform. Vice President Chen Chien-jen, who attended his second Future Tech Expo, commended the expo for integrating academic research results with industry innovations. He added he looks forward to working with other countries to give the world and all mankind a better life in the future.

Statistics show over 4,000 business matchmaking discussions took place during the three-day event, and over 70 business delegations toured the expo. These included a delegation from the Taiwan IOT Technology and Industry Association, which was led by Chairperson Frank Huang and formed by 10 senior executives from member corporations. They said many of the technologies on display at the expo have commercial potential and value, which is a rare treasure for an industry that is currently facing transformation.

Venues filled to capacity as over 1,000 people take part in forums; event culminates with awards ceremony
The expo period also included a series of forums on trends and related lectures, with domestic and international industry and academia experts invited to speak about the topics “AI Innovative Applications,” “Precision Medicine,” and “Quantum Computing.” Many visitors touring the expo stopped what they were doing to listen to the speakers, and the venues were filled to capacity. Panel discussions were held following each forum to allow experts to interact, and were enthusiastically praised by on-site audiences. Those who were unable to attend in person could watch live broadcasts on the Ministry of Science and Technology’s fan page.

The perfect finale for the three-day expo was the awards ceremony, where the winners of the “Best Popular Technology Award” and “Best Media Focus Award” were announced. The 81 winning teams of the “Future Technology Breakthrough Award” were selected from the 123 innovative technologies showcased at the Future Tech Expo after experts from various fields evaluated the selections and the ministry’s deputy ministers held numerous meetings to discuss them and determine the winners. The organizer also arranged for the media and visitors to select the 10 winning teams of the “Best Popular Technology Award” and “Best Media Focus Award” through voting. Science and Technology Minister Chen Liang-gee presented the awards to the winners, and lauded the outstanding performance of these excellent teams at the expo. Enthusiasm, partnership discussions continue after expo concludes
In his speech, Science and Technology Minister Chen Liang-gee encouraged all the research teams to sustain their love for science. He told them that if they use inventions and dreams to break through obstacles, then they are bound to have the opportunity to reach the commercialization stage. He added the Ministry of Science and Technology would continue to promote and commercialize all research results. After the expo, it will conduct successive one-on-one discussions on business opportunities and partnerships in various places; incorporate innovative topics; share industry-academia cooperation experiences; and organize matchmaking events and exchanges to attract industries. These will serve as a business exchange and matchmaking platform for industry, academia, and research institutions, allowing companies to collaborate on the forward-looking technologies of academic teams to make them even better. It will also show the world Taiwan’s “small country, smart strategy” competitive philosophy and its determination to become a “country on which the sun never sets” in terms of technology and industry competitiveness.
