Dr. Plant won the subsidy from the Star-up project of Ministry of Science and Technology's Department of Academia-Industry Collaboration and Science Park Affairs. It is the only Taiwanese team producing low-potassium vegetables suitable for patients with kidney disease and the general public. This January Dr. Plant attended The Angel Fund-raising Matchmaking Association held by NCHU Global Research & Industry Alliance. After the matchmaking association, Mr. Endy Wang, the chairman of Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd., and its shareholders decided to invest NTD two million dollars in Dr. Plant. This would be the key point that National Development Fund invested NTD 10 million dollars in Dr. Plant. Dr. Plant and the Chairman Wang announced this news to people on 10th June, 2020 together.
The Chairman Wang was the 1st-year-graduate of NCHU EMBA. He endeavors to combine the power and experiences of seniors to assist NCHU student teams to start a business. Therefore, in April 2017, Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd. was established on NCHU campus. The vision of Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd. is to invest in campus start-up teams. Moreover, Meng Ya Venture plays the tutor role guiding NCHU professors and students start own business.
On 10th June, the Chairman Wang shows his support to Dr. Plant. He mentioned that the filial story of Morris Huang, the CEO of Dr. Plant, to his mother-in-law touches him deeply. The CEO Huang is the current PhD. Student at NCHU, and his background is pharmacist. His mother-in-law has received the kidney dialysis and controlled the "potassium" in the diet for many years. For her diet, vegetables must be chopped and then boiled with clean water before they can be eaten. After that, the taste of vegetable would be completely absent. Therefore, he starts to innovate the R&D of low-potassium vegetable.
Dr. Plant was rewarded the Business Star-up Award of the Ministry of Education in 2017, the subsidy from the Star-up project of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2018, and the Taiwan SMEs Innovation Research Award of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2019. From last May, Dr. Plant also starts mass production of the several vegetable types, including Chinese cabbage, Bok choy, Taiwan rape, Japanese rape, lettuce, etc.
Dr. Plant is the fifth star-up team invested by Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd. And, the Chairman Wang was proud and glad that Dr. Plant awarded the 1st Fund of Agricultural Field from National Development Fund after the investment of Meng Ya Venture Capital Co., Ltd. Moreover, he expects Dr. Plant can research and develop more vegetable types suitable for diabetics to benefit more people in the future. Furthermore, in accordance with corporate social responsibility, he wishes Dr. Plant can allocate a certain percentage of profits feedback to society in the future as well.
