  • NSYSU applies to establish a medical schoolsigned a contract with Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, where Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital will become its teaching hospital.
NSYSU is actively planning to establish a medical school and signed a strategic alliance cooperation agreement with Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital. Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital will become the main teaching hospital of NSYSU. Every year, Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital provides NSYSU postgraduate medical students of the third and fourth grades to Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital for clinical implementation and learning, so as to jointly cultivate publicly-funded medical students who care about the society and have both humanities and technological literacy. CHENG, YING-YAO, principal of NSYSU, emphasized that all people have been in the epidemic prevention for more than 100 days. In the future, NSYSU and Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital will also join forces to fight the outbreak. If large-scale infectious diseases occur, they can help provide the first-line medical manpower and the latest medical research technology in Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Penghu and Taitung to protect the health of the people.

In addition to the newly established "Institute of BioPharmaceutical Sciences" and "Institute of Precision Medicine" in 2020, NSYSU also actively applied for the establishment of "Post-Bachelor Medicine Department". Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital will work together with NSYSU to improve the quality of medical education based on excellent medical resources, including medical research instruments, research facilities, biological materials, biological tissue libraries, library resources, information equipment, connected clinical data and animal centers, etc. In the future, the two parties will jointly guide master students and doctoral students, set up a cooperation agreement group, and work together to promote new studies or new departments, making Kaohsiung a "center of nurturing publicly-funded medical students."

In the face of the global epidemic of new pneumonia, Principal CHENG, YING-YAO believes that as medical staff patrol the wards 4 to 6 times a day, they bear the risk of infection in the hospital. Therefore, preserving their combat power is undoubtedly the key to epidemic prevention. The team from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the NSYSU builds the world's first "non-contact physiological sensing system" that can detect patients' breath, heartbeat and body temperature "distantly" 24 hours a day. This will assist the hospital to monitor the patient's physiological condition remotely and reduce the possibility of cross-infection. In addition, the Laser Atmospheric Mass Spectrometer developed by the "Rapid Screening Research Center for Toxicology and Biomedicine" has been successfully used in clinical emergency toxicology treatment. In the future, patients with new coronavirus similar to Wuhan pneumonia can be quickly screened. This technology will also be exhibited at the world-renowned US BIO online digital exhibition through Global Research & Industry Alliance. The only "Aerosol Science Research Center" in Asia is devoted to PM2.5 preventive medicine and aerosol biomedical research, to explore the transmission of new coronavirus through PM2.5, and the causes and solutions of the diseases (such as lung, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, etc.) induced by it.
