  • Yang-Ming Global Research & Industry Alliance – Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Innovation & Incubation Center Establishment

The graduated manufacturers and resident manufacturers were invited to the 20th anniversary event, joining the celebration together with the professors and students of National Yang-Ming University.

National Yang-Ming University founded the Innovation and Incubation Center in 1999, which was the first professional innovation and incubation center focusing on medicine and biotechnology in Taiwan. With intense training competencies developed over the past 20 years, it is the only innovation and incubation center in Taiwan receiving the Asian Association of Business Incubation Outstanding Enterprise Award for the highest number of times! The Innovation and Incubation Center specially planned a distinguished 20th-anniversary gathering with the assistance from Yang-Ming Global Research & Industry Alliance, and successfully displayed their training achievements. All previous Yang-Ming professors were invited to share their histories of practice-based entrepreneurship and tips for effective management to benefit more professors and students who intend to start a business and make the startup atmosphere thrive on campus.

President, H. S. Kuo gave a speech to claim that the industry, as well as universities, are in the process of transition, which has made industry-academia collaboration even more critical. Since its establishment, the Innovation and Incubation Center has assisted in the training of over 130 manufacturers with no lack of over-the-counter companies. For instance, Eusol Biotech Co., Ltd. run by Chairman Hong-Jen Chang.

The three highlighted enterprises attending this grand occasion included “SuperLab” founded by Prof. Wen-Chyan Tsai, Institute of Microbiology and Immunology; “Changan Pharmaceutical Group” founded by Prof. Rong-Tsun Wu, Institute of Biopharmaceutical Sciences; and “Bened Biomedical” founded by Prof. Ying-Chieh Tsai, Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Apart from sharing their paths to entrepreneurship from enduring great hardships when they first started the enterprise to the better days, they especially appreciated the training offered by the Yang-Ming Innovation and Incubation Center. They have also provided many expectations and suggestions for the center.

The three highlighted enterprises struggled at the pioneering stage, yet managed to break through a variety of obstacles popping up by stationing in the Innovation and Incubation Center. The obstacles included spaces for stationing, technical and management consultation, fundraising, marketing and promotion, and so on. For instance, the center helped the newly founded SuperLab to rent an animal center for animal experiments and provided it with guidance on practical experiences regarding chemical analyses. As for Changan Pharmaceutical Group that needed capital infusion most during the pioneering stage, the Innovation and Incubation Center helped the company by introducing to it the first two hundred thousand dollars from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C. Besides, the center also counseled Bened Biomedical in establishing laboratories, applying for government funding, and product promotion.

Continuing to grow for 20 years, Yang-Ming Innovation and Incubation Center has gained a considerable reputation and strong counseling ability. It has obviously become a vital driving force for the venture partners in the biomedical industry. In the future, it will assist entrepreneurs in solidifying their foundation of entrepreneurship, and continue to devote itself to improving the startup atmosphere on campus and promoting industry-academia collaboration, making use of and commercializing academic findings in a real way!
