  • NSYSU established "AI Research & Industrial Promotion Center" integrating GLORIA resources & deepen partnership with CSC

In response to the AI development trends and needs around the globe, the NSYSU established the “Artificial Intelligence Research and Industrial Promotion Center”to share resources, develop R&D synergies and cultivate innovative talents in the field of AI

In order to integrate the artificial intelligence research and industrial development resources from the industry, government and academy, the NSYSU has announced the establishment of the "Artificial Intelligence Research and Industrial Promotion Center" as the first-level research center and conducted the inauguration ceremony with the representatives of the China Steel Corporation. As the principal of the NSYSU and the host of the GLORIA project, Cheng Ying-Yao stressed that by bringing together the NSYSU's teaching and research resources and integrating the GLORIA resources, the use of AI in research could be promoted, and the technology required by the industry could be provided to innovate and develop new research directions, so that the industry, government and academy could be synchronously upgraded to foster outstanding and innovative talents.

The NSYSU and the China Steel Corporation are both located in Kaohsiung. As such, the geographical relationship is favorable for the industry-academy cooperation. Over the years, the two parties have had close exchanges in applications of materials, environmental applications, engineering applications and process technologies. In response to the AI development trends and needs around the globe, the NSYSU established the "Artificial Intelligence Research and Industrial Promotion Center," hoping to share resources and develop research and development synergies. Regarding the industry-academy cooperation projects in the future, the principal, Cheng Ying-Yao, said, "Investment in the industry-academy cooperation projects could help foster various professional and innovative talents." In practice, the industry can assess the needs to apply AI and propose the industry-academy cooperation project, in which the NSYSU could jointly participate in the research and development process. In terms of talent cultivation, the industry will entrust the NSYSU to provide artificial intelligence engineer training courses and supply talents according to industrial and technical needs, in order to strengthen the efficiency of actual application of AI in the industry.

The commissioner of the Artificial Intelligence Research and Industrial Promotion Center, Chen Ying-Chung, pointed out that the NSYSU has recently discussed with the Technology Development Team from the China Steel Corporation about a number of technologies for AI applications in the industrial processes. For data collation and algorithm testing, the two parties have conducted preliminary cooperation. After that, both parties will set the goal of the industry-academy project and sign a cooperation agreement. The convenor of the Artificial Intelligence Industry & Academia Alliance at the NARLabs, Yang Hung-Tun, mentioned that many of the professors at the NSYSU specialized in the field of artificial intelligence. This year, they also partnered with the Taiwan AI Academy to launch a South Campus. As the Artificial Intelligence Research Center has been established, it will be able to integrate school resources, focus more on the research and development of artificial intelligence, and attract abundant momentum for the industry in South Taiwan.

The Executive Vice President of the China Steel Corporation, Wang Hsi-Chin, said that artificial intelligence is the core of Industry 4.0 and intellectualization, and its huge effects have also spread across the industry, and it is even the most critical factor in determining the future competitiveness of the industry. He is very happy and thankful to the NSYSU for setting up this center. He believes that this will make a significant contribution to the industrialization of AI or the development of AI in the industry. The China Steel Corporation has cooperated with the NSYSU for many years, and specific and remarkable results have been exhibited. On the issue of intellectualization, it is hoped that both parties can cooperate and create new achievements.
