To establish a model for the future development of Regulatory Technology (RegTech) in Taiwan, the "Sandbox Experimentation and the Future of Regulatory Technology" forum was co-organized by the Global Research and Industry Alliance (GLORIA), FinTech Research Center, and Operation Center of Industry-Academia Cooperation and Innovation-Incubation at National Chengchi University (NCU) and held at the GIS MOTC Convention Center in Taipei on December 25, 2018 (Tue).
The Forum invited representatives from the industry, government and academia to join in examining how regulatory uncertainty can be effectively reduced through the operation of a regulatory sandbox, as well as RegTech can be used to effectively reduce the cost of compliance. Three keynote speakers were scheduled during the Forum. CEO Peng Jin-lung from the NCU InsurTech Application Lab explained how the "regulatory sandbox simulator" supports financial innovation and builds an ecosystem for financial innovation, GLORIA CEO Wang Lee-ling discussed the future of sandbox experimentation and RegTech in Taiwan, and Prof. Wang Ching-yao of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) described the application of RegTech to compliance management. A panel of experts including Chang Ming-chun (Vice-President, Taiwan Insurance Institute), Cheng Jen-chieh (Deputy General Director, ITRI), Lin Shih-chieh (President, Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance), and Thomas Wan (General Manager, Deloitte) were also invited to explore the future prospects and vision for sandbox experimental and RegTech in Taiwan. Local regulators, operators and the academic community were provided with extensive and detailed recommendations on implementation strategies and policies for the development of financial regulatory technology in Taiwan.
